Terms and conditions
Plain English, and no longer than it needs to be. If anything here is unclear, call before you order rather than after.

1. Who this is between
These terms are between you and [REGISTERED COMPANY NAME], trading as Back to the Root, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Placing an order means you accept them. You need to be 18 or over to hold an account.
The contract is formed when we confirm your order, not when you press the button. If we cannot fulfil an order we will say so and charge nothing.
2. Plans, and what is in one
- You choose up to three main meals a day — breakfast, lunch and dinner — and up to two snacks a day.
- You choose how many days a week, from one to seven.
- For each meal you may build up to three varieties. They rotate across your week in order. On a five day plan with three lunches you get A, B, C, A, B. This is how the kitchen cooks, and it is why the limit is three.
- Every lunch and dinner box includes one protein, one carbohydrate and one vegetable in the plan price. Every breakfast and snack box includes one protein and one carbohydrate.
- Anything beyond that is an addition and carries the charge shown against it while you are building. Nothing is added to a box or to a bill without you choosing it.
3. Prices, and what the crossed out price means
All prices are in UAE dirhams and include VAT where it applies.
You will see two figures: a higher one with a line through it, and the plan price. We want to be exact about what the higher figure is, because a struck-through number that was never charged would be misleading and we are not going to do that.
The higher figure is our pay-as-you-go rate: what the same boxes cost ordered one week at a time with no commitment. It is a real price and we really charge it. The plan price is lower because a committed plan lets the kitchen buy and cook to a known number. The saving shown is the difference between the two, and it is arithmetic you can check.
Two further reductions may apply and are itemised separately on your bill: a commitment discount that grows with the number of days a week, and any promotion you qualify for.
The price you are charged is the price our system calculates at the moment you order. The figure shown while you build is a live estimate from the same rules. If they ever differ, the confirmed total on your confirmation is the one that stands, and we will show it to you before you pay.
4. The optional bundles
Soup, fresh juice and electrolytes are optional bundles. They are never included in a plan price and are never added automatically.
- Soup and juice go out with lunch and dinner.
- Electrolytes go out with breakfast.
- Each is priced per day according to how many meals a day you attach it to — one, two or three. The rate for each is shown before you add it.
- The flavours available change with the season. If the one you chose is not available that week we substitute the nearest and tell you.
- A bundle can be added or removed for the following week up to the cut-off in section 7.
5. Offers and promotions
- An offer marked for new customers is available on a first plan only, one per household and per address.
- Offers cannot be combined unless we say so.
- A promotional period is counted in weeks from your first delivery. When it ends, the plan continues at the standard plan price, and we will tell you by email at least seven days before that happens.
- A free bundle offer covers the bundle only, not the plan.
- We may withdraw an offer for new orders at any time. Withdrawing it never affects a plan already running under it.
6. Billing and renewal
Plans are billed for the number of weeks you chose, in advance, from your start date. A plan renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel before the renewal date.
We will email you before each renewal with the amount and the date. If a payment fails we will try again and contact you; deliveries pause after two failed attempts rather than continuing on credit.
We never see your card number. Card payments are taken by our gateway on their own page.
7. Changing, pausing and cancelling
| What | When | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Change your meals | By 18:00 Thursday for the following week | Free |
| Add or drop a bundle | By 18:00 Thursday for the following week | Bill adjusts from that week |
| Skip a single day | At least 48 hours before | Credited to your next bill |
| Pause the plan | At least 48 hours before | Billing date moves by the same number of days |
| Change your address | At least 24 hours before | Free, inside the delivery area |
| Cancel | Before the next renewal date | Runs to the end of the paid period, then stops |
Food is prepared to order, so a change made after the cut-off cannot be honoured for that week. Everything above can be done by phone, email or WhatsApp; you do not have to use the website.
Refunds. Prepared food cannot be returned, so we do not refund a delivered box because you changed your mind. We do refund, in full, any box that did not arrive, arrived spoiled, or was not what you ordered — see section 9. Any unused whole weeks on a cancelled plan are refunded to the original payment method within 14 days.
8. Delivery
- We deliver inside Abu Dhabi. If your address is outside the area we will tell you before taking payment.
- Windows are mornings 06:00 to 09:00 or 09:00 to 11:00, and evenings 17:00 to 20:00. We aim for the window; traffic and weather occasionally beat us.
- Delivery is included in the plan price.
- You can follow each delivery on the tracker, from the kitchen to the door.
- If nobody answers, the driver leaves the bag in the place you agreed and calls you. From that moment refrigeration is your responsibility. Food left out in an Abu Dhabi summer is not safe for long, and we cannot replace a box that was delivered correctly and then spoiled outside a fridge.
- If you have not agreed a safe place and nobody answers, the driver takes the bag away and we contact you. That day is credited.
9. If a delivery goes wrong
Tell us the same day, by phone or WhatsApp. Photographs help but we will not demand them.
- Did not arrive — full credit for that day, and we deliver again the next morning if you want.
- Wrong box — full credit for the box.
- Arrived spoiled or warm — full credit, and we look at the cold chain for that run. Do not eat it.
- An allergen you told us to keep out — stop eating it, tell us immediately, and seek medical help if you need it. We will investigate, tell you what we find, and refund the whole week.
10. Food, allergies and health
The kitchen is halal.
We will keep an ingredient out of your boxes if you tell us to, and the exclusion is printed on the box and read out at packing. But the same kitchen handles nuts, peanuts, dairy, gluten, egg, soy, sesame and seafood. We cannot promise a trace free environment and we will not pretend otherwise. If your allergy is severe enough that a trace matters, please talk to us before ordering so we can be honest about whether we are right for you.
Nothing on this site is medical or dietary advice. It is food, portioned to a target. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, recovering from illness, or under a doctor for anything at all, speak to them before changing how you eat.
11. Nutrition figures
Calorie and macro figures are calculated from the recipe and the scale, with every portion weighed. They are accurate to a normal kitchen tolerance — expect around five percent either way — and they are not laboratory analyses. Fresh produce varies. Do not use these figures for clinical purposes.
Some dish names are marked provisional while the kitchen finalises a recipe. A provisional dish is real food and is weighed like everything else; only the name may change.
12. The AI planner and the body assessment
The planner suggests a week from our menu, using either our own matching or an AI model. It is a suggestion. You choose every dish and you can change every one of them. No decision that affects you is made automatically.
The body assessment estimates a calorie and protein target from standard formulas. It is an estimate for a healthy adult, not a diagnosis and not a prescription. What is sent to the AI provider, and what is not, is set out in our privacy policy.
13. Your account
- Keep your sign in details to yourself. Tell us at once if you think somebody else has them.
- One account per person. An account is for household use, not resale.
- Give us accurate delivery details. We cannot deliver to an address that does not exist, and a wrong address is not a missed delivery.
- You can delete your account at any time — see the privacy policy.
14. When we may decline or end a plan
We may decline an order or end a plan where the address is outside the delivery area, where payment repeatedly fails, where a dietary request cannot be met safely in our kitchen, or where a customer is abusive to our staff or drivers. Any unused part of a paid period is refunded in full.
15. Liability
We are responsible for the food we cook and the service we run, and where we get it wrong we put it right as set out in section 9.
We are not liable for losses we could not reasonably foresee, or for events outside our control — severe weather, road closures, utility failures, or a supplier failing us at short notice. Where such an event stops a delivery, that day is credited.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under UAE law. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected by anything written here.
16. Your data
What we collect, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it and how to get it deleted is set out in full in our privacy policy. In short: we collect what is needed to cook and deliver your food, we do not sell it to anybody, and you can have it back or have it erased by asking.
17. Complaints and law
Tell us first: or . We answer complaints within five working days.
If we cannot resolve it, you can raise it with the UAE Ministry of Economy consumer protection service, or the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the courts of Abu Dhabi have jurisdiction.
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect, and you may cancel without penalty if you do not accept it.
